Inspiration

I am inspired by a film called “In Time”. The concept and settings in the film are about life and time. Time is a currency unit and lifetime unit which means the people in that world are using life to merchandise. The film emphasized the significance of time, everyone seeking for time. In the film, time is significant but fearful. It would force people to worry about their time and expose the dark side of a human being.

Moreover, phobia and phobia patients are my inspiration. Phobia is sort of a mental disorder. As I knew that, there are some symptoms of phobia such as shortness of breath, choking sensation, dizziness, etc. These symptoms are the elements for creating an animation film. I was also curious about if someone’s phobia is fear of time, what would he act like.

Apart from it, a digital artist also inspires me a lot. I discovered him on Instagram, called jperl. The visual style of his work is surreal and repetition. The general concept of all his work is Droste effect which is repeating visual effect that occurs when an image contains a copy of that image which in turn etc. The effect is simple but the outcome would be complex since the effect makes the visuals deeper. I am inspired by what he combined daily life and his imagined world with the effects. It is like a delusion of an insanity person.

Thought and Findings

One of the mental disorders --- Phobia.

I would call it a hidden disorder. Some of the patients are just acting like an ordinary person. However, once they are triggered by the factor they fear, it is not just a “scare level”, they cannot even breathe as usual. It is like a button to turn a person into another form. For a mental disorder patient, most of the people would keep away from them. Yet, they actually like an ordinary person. Who defines them as an unordinary person? The disorder? The index?

Perhaps they have a mental obstacle. For me, I thought they have a different perspective and views on how to see the world. This is my thought of Phobia disorder.
